Introducing a New Era in Fall Prevention
Pet Awareness for Living Safely
A LiDAR-based pet detection and fall prevention system designed for older adults aging in place — with dignity, safety, and independence at the center of every innovation.
Live Visualization
P.A.L.S. uses RPLIDAR C1 sensors to continuously map your living environment. When a pet enters a zone where an older adult is present or moving, the system calculates fall risk in real time — and alerts caregivers instantly.
Every room is unique. P.A.L.S. learns the spatial layout of the home and identifies which zones — stairs, kitchens, nighttime pathways — present the highest co-presence risk.
System Architecture
Rotating LiDAR sensors mounted discreetly in each room capture full 360° point-cloud data, detecting objects as small as a household cat with centimeter accuracy.
Ultra-low-latency ESP32 microcontrollers process spatial data at the edge, communicating wirelessly via ESP-NOW to the master base station — no WiFi required for core detection.
A machine learning model trained on fall-incident patterns classifies co-presence risk in real time. Context-aware: nighttime and high-traffic zones receive heightened sensitivity.
The certified "Pet Aware" Alexa Skill delivers natural-language alerts and daily summaries. Families can ask Alexa for status updates or configure alert thresholds using voice commands.
Designated family members and professional caregivers receive instant push alerts when high-risk co-presence is detected — with room location and contextual risk data included.
P.A.L.S. uses only LiDAR point-cloud data — never cameras or microphones for spatial sensing. No identifiable information is stored. Dignity is not optional; it is engineered in.
Signal Flow
"The presence of a beloved pet should bring joy, not risk. P.A.L.S. exists so that no older adult ever has to choose between the companionship of their animal and their own safety."
— Dr. Melissa Mansfield, PhD, NAPG-C · Founder, The Gerontechnology Group
Voice Interface
The "Pet Aware" Alexa Skill makes P.A.L.S. conversational — designed for older adults who prefer speaking over tapping. No app needed, no learning curve.
